Laue Ranch is among the oldest and largest producers of purebred Charolais cattle in the central United States. Our base of operations is the fertile valley of the Little Blue River in Washington County, Kansas, with partner herds in South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. The ranch home, on the hill east of Hanover, overlooks the Oregon Trail and the “Cottonwood Ranch” Pony Express Station, a national historic site.
Lester and LeAnna Laue have devoted their lives to building and operating the ranch. Both are natives of the Hanover, Kansas area, and attended the local schools. Lester returned to the area after serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In addition to thousands of Charolais cattle, they raised two children on the ranch, son Brant and daughter Lisa. The Laues are familiar faces at major livestock events, and have held numerous leadership positions in the industry and their community. Lester was the founding president of the Bluestem Charolais Association, an officer of the Kansas Charolais Association, and a committee member of the American-International Charolais Association. He has served on local bank, school, cemetery, and airport boards. LeAnna Laue is active in the church, serves on the county tourism board, and was a 4-H leader. The Laue’s son Brant has been involved with Charolais cattle his entire life. As a youngster, he was national vice president of the junior Charolais association. More recently, he served as President of the Kansas Charolais Association and Chairman of the Rules and Ethics Committee of the American-International Charolais Association. He is an honors graduate of Oral Roberts University and the Cornell Law School. In addition to his involvement with the ranch, he served as a law clerk to a federal judge and as a Justice Department attorney during the Reagan Administration, and currently maintains a law practice in Kansas City. He also serves as a Vice Chairman of the American Royal Livestock, Horse Show, and Rodeo in Kansas City.
