In the business of animal genetics and husbandry, there is perhaps no greater challenge than the breeding and racing of Thoroughbred horses. Leveraging our lifetime of experience with purebred cattle, we have assembled a select stable of our own Thoroughbreds, managed by Brant Laue. The Laue Ranch runners have won or placed at major racetracks such as Keeneland and Churchill Downs in Kentucky, Gulfstream Park in Florida, Belmont and Saratoga in New York, and Arlington and Hawthorne in Illinois. Watch this page for updates on their accomplishments. Gun Salute’s three year old campaign featured four stakes wins, including most notably a Grade I victory. He “ran the table” by collecting victories at all three levels of graded stakes competition, along with a listed stakes win, and was widely recognized as one of the top three year old turf colts in America. In the Secretariat Stakes (G.I) at Chicago’s Arlington Park, he drew off impressively to post a 1 ¾ length victory against a premier international group of three year old turf horses. His winning Beyer Speed Figure of 107 was the highest posted in the U.S. by any three year old colt on the turf in 2005. His other wins included the American Derby (G.II), the Hawthorne Derby (G.III), and the Forerunner Stakes at Keeneland. He also carried the Laue Ranch colors in the 2005 Breeders’ Cup at Belmont Park. Gun Salute is a Kentucky homebred son of the Danzig stallion Military, and is out of the Laue Ranch broodmare Hail Roberta (by Roberto). He is trained by Bill Mott, and is ridden by Cornelio Velasquez. His lifetime record is 12 starts, 6 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds, with purse earnings of $715,844 (as of 1/1/07). Cayuga’s Waters won a prestigious New York stakes race, along with three other events, as a three year old. The versatile filly was a winner and stakes performer on both dirt and turf. Her win in the Pebbles Stakes, run at one mile on the dirt at Belmont Park, followed a second place finish by a nose in Belmont’s Jena Jena Stakes, run at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Perhaps her most visually impressive victory was in a 1 1/8 mile allowance at Saratoga, where she prevailed by 10 ½ lengths over a rain-soaked dirt track with the announcer exclaiming “Jerry Bailey is just along for the ride!” She was a nominee for Champion New York Bred Three Year Old Filly, and also placed in the Saratoga Dew Stakes. Cayuga’s Waters is a New York bred daughter of the Danzig stallion Langfuhr, and is out of the Apalachee mare Tomahawkstress. She is trained by Bill Mott, and is ridden by Jerry Bailey. Her lifetime record is 18 starts, 4 wins, 3 seconds, 1 third, with purse earnings of $194,422. She has been retired for breeding. Love Cove made a strong start to 2007 with a January win at Aqueduct in New York. She came back in her next start to place in the Dat You Miz Blue Stakes at the same track, as part of a thrilling four horse photo finish. Love Cove is a New York bred daughter of the Mr. Prospector stallion Not For Love, and is out of the Desert Wine mare Sand Pirate. Her lifetime record is 1 win, 1 second, 2 thirds, with purse earnings of $44,161 (as of 3/14/07). |
